Squalane and a vitamin C derivative. Scarless lists squalane, an olive-derived emollient, and a stable vitamin C derivative. The ingredient list on NewGel+E's US product page names neither. It lists vitamin E, which is not on Scarless's list.
Sizes. In the US, NewGel+E is sold in 15 g and 30 g sizes. Scarless comes in a 15 g tube.
Application compared

- How to apply. Scarless: squeeze out a small amount, spread a thin layer over the scar and rub in gently until it dries. NewGel+E, according to its US instructions for use: wash and dry the area, apply a very small amount to make a thin layer over the scar, and gently massage it in.
- How often. Scarless: two to three times a day. NewGel+E: two to three times daily, and again after bathing, swimming or exercising.
- How long. Scarless: two to three months, and longer for established scars. NewGel+E: at least two months, and up to six months.
- Over the dried gel. Scarless can be covered with cosmetics or sunscreen once it has dried. NewGel+E's US instructions for use say that once dry, typically in one to two minutes, it can be covered by clothing, cosmetics, sunblock and bandages. See how to apply Scarless.
What the evidence can and cannot tell us
Silicone as a class. Silicone gels and sheets are widely recommended in scar-management guidance, particularly for hypertrophic scars and keloids. However, systematic reviews have found that the certainty of evidence for some outcomes is low or very low.
The ingredients beyond silicone. The research on squalane and on vitamin C derivatives looks at the ingredients themselves, not at Scarless as a finished product.

Which may suit whom
Each has documented features that may matter to different people:
- NewGel+E may suit someone who wants a larger size (in the US it is sold in a 30 g size as well as 15 g), or a silicone gel that lists vitamin E. It may also suit someone who wants sheeting or an SPF 30 gel from the same range: NewGel+ also includes silicone sheeting in sheets, shapes and strips, and NewGel+UV, a silicone gel with SPF 30.
- Scarless may suit someone who wants squalane and a stable vitamin C derivative in a silicone gel. Sunscreen may be applied after Scarless has dried.
